Natascha Kampusch erlitt das schrecklichste Schicksal, das einem Kind zustoßen kann: Am 2. März 1998 wurde sie im Alter von zehn Jahren auf dem Schulweg entführt. Ihr Peiniger, der Nachrichtentechniker Wolfgang Priklopil, hielt sie in einem Kellerverlies gefangen – 3096 Tage lang. Am 23. August 2006 gelang ihr aus eigener Kraft die Flucht. Priklopil nahm sich noch am selben Tag das Leben. Jetzt spricht Natascha Kampusch zum ersten Mal offen über die Entführung, die Zeit der Gefangenschaft, ihre Beziehung zum Täter und darüber, wie es ihr gelang, der Hölle zu entkommen.

Church conversion, Cape Town

Nein, wir haben keineswegs auf unsere beliebte church conversion Rubrik vergessen, sondern nur eine Pause eingelegt. Na, und in der Zwischenzeit hat sich wirklich einiges getan, sodass es uns möglich ist, wieder auf ein paar extraordinär schöne church conversions zurück zugreifen.
Diesmal führt uns die Reise nach downtown Cape Town, South Africa. Wieder wurde ein komplett nutzlos gewordener Kirchenraum von Requisiten, Dekorationen und Devotionalien gereinigt. Der etwas absonderliche Kirchengeruch beseitigt, damit sich diese church conversion von seiner besten Seite zeigen kann. It’s painted all white with wood floors left in their original, rough state with modern furnishings to liven the place up. And the enormous suspended frame with blinds is a great way to delineate the kitchen from the living/dining spaces.

The Traditional “Turning of the LEGO Bricks” Ceremony
Recently construction began on the second LEGOLAND Discovery Center in the United States. But before any real work could be done, a “Turning of the LEGO Bricks” ceremony had to occur. Yes, it’s as silly as this picture suggests.

Basically thousands of those lovely LEGO bricks were poured onto the ground as the local mayor, a senator, and other officials dug into the pile with shovels.
Silly, but that’s what it took to officially mark the beginning of the construction of a fantastic new “35,000-square-foot playland [which] will offer rides, a 4D cinema, party rooms, interactive features and even a MINILAND that will feature landmark North Texas buildings—including a Cowboys Stadium made out of LEGOs.” [Dellas News]

This Is Not a Dollhouse

It may look like it, but no, this is not a dollhouse. It’s a very real, completely full size house.
This very old farm house on the Canadian tundra looks like any ordinary farm house from the front. Then you get to its back and discover that it is really a playhouse for human-sized dolls.
Back in 2007, Saskatchewan artist Heather Benning decided to get this old farm house that once sat on her father’s land, rip apart the whole north facade, and cover it with plexiglass.
