The Traditional “Turning of the LEGO Bricks” Ceremony

Recently construction began on the second LEGOLAND Discovery Center in the United States. But before any real work could be done, a “Turning of the LEGO Bricks” ceremony had to occur. Yes, it’s as silly as this picture suggests.

Basically thousands of those lovely LEGO bricks were poured onto the ground as the local mayor, a senator, and other officials dug into the pile with shovels.

Silly, but that’s what it took to officially mark the beginning of the construction of a fantastic new “35,000-square-foot playland [which] will offer rides, a 4D cinema, party rooms, interactive features and even a MINILAND that will feature landmark North Texas buildings—including a Cowboys Stadium made out of LEGOs.” [Dellas News]

Lego Arcade Machine Overloads My Nerd Senses

via gizmodo
The Lego arcade cabinet doesn’t use MAME on a PC. Instead, it has a Jamma board inside. The Jamma allows you to easily pick any classic arcade ROM from a library of 48 games. It is now discontinued, but if you are looking to build something similar, there’s a 60-in-1 model available for just $160.

TAJ MAHAL LEGO SET LARGEST EVER CREATED

via gearfuse
If you’re an avid LEGO fan, you’re probably aware that the largest LEGO set you can buy in stores nowadays is the 5195 piece Millennium Falcon. For awhile, it was the cream of the crop. But next month, things are going to change. LEGO is introducing the Taj Mahal in all its glory. A whopping 5922 pieces, you’ll be building this one for months to complete the 20″ x 16″ structure.

At $300, it’s actually an affordable project for the amount of work you’ll end up doing. If you’re broke or too cheap, you could always painfully recreate it in Bricksmith. I wonder if it comes with enough LEGO workers to staff the place…

BUILDING A LEGO VW BEETLE WON’T MAKE YOU A NAZI

via gearfuse
Based on a 1960 ‘Charlotte’ model, the VW is 16″ long and features moving parts and doors that open and close. I think that for $120, it’s a steal. You and your pals will have fun getting drunk and building it. That is, until you lose that one piece.

WOULD JESUS PLAY WITH LEGO’S?

via gearfuse
We know from the Bible that Jesus was a carpenter, but we don’t now what he would think of this Holy Lego collection. The guys over at Brick Testament put together a project which portrays scenes from the Bible made with Lego’s.

Genesis, Exodus, the Garden of Eden, stonings, wrath, plagues, they’re all included. The project was made using over 3600 Lego pieces. We can’t speak for Jesus, but we can say that we approve of this fully. — Andrew Dobrow
